Masaai Mara Safaris and Uganda Gorilla Tours

Named in honour of the Masaai people who call this corner of Africa home, the Mara is world renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, herds-a-thousand-strong of buffalo, the rare black rhino and of course the thriving elephants. In approximately July of each year, the Great Migration arrives for an annual four-month stay.

There is an area west of the Mara River, beneath the Oloololo escarpment known as the Mara Triangle. Not only is this the most productive part of the entire Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in terms of grass nutrition, but it is also spectacularly scenic. In places, the grassy plains are dotted with widely spaced Balanites trees that give the landscape an almost manicured look, which together with the steep-sided escarpment and broad Mara River provides a breath-taking backdrop for wildlife photographers. The Mara Triangle has been most efficiently managed by the Mara Conservancy for the past 15 years – evidenced in the guides’ discipline, successful anti-poaching efforts and impressive road infrastructure. For much of the year, the Mara Triangle has the lowest density of visitors in the Greater Masaai Mara, with just two lodges within its perimeters and a few on the northern border. Covering over 500 square kilometers, the Mara Triangle includes seasonal marshes, open plains and gallery forest habitats, providing homes for a great diversity of mammals and birds.

The Masaai Mara wildlife Reserve is globally famous for its exceptional high population of Masaai lions, Tanzanian cheetahs, African leopards and the annual migration of zebras, Thomson’s gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration. The Masaai Mara National Reserve is only a fraction of the Greater Mara Ecosystem, which includes the following Group Ranches:  Olkinyei, Lemek, Koiyaki, Ol Chorro Oirowua, Siana, Naikara, Maji Moto, Ol Derkesi, Oloirien, Kerinkani and Kimintet.

When visiting the Maasai Mara you are likely to see the famous Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. The park is purposely for Game viewing: morning and afternoon game drives expose visitors to a variety of animals and birds. The list of birds is endless; Black-throated, Yellow-breasted, Avocet   Pied, Babbler African Hill, Arrow-marked, Black-lored, Barbet D’Arnaud’s, ouble-toothed, Grey-throated, Red-fronted, Spot-flanked, White-headed, Bateleur, Batis, Chin-spot, Bee-eater , Blue-cheeked, Cinnamon-chested, Eurasian, Little, Madagascar, Northern Carmine, White-fronted, White-throated, Bishop Southern Red, Yellow, Bittern Dwarf, Blackcap, Bluebill, Red-headed, Brubru, Boubou Slate-coloured, Tropical, Bulbu , Yellow-vented, or Common Bunting, Cinnamon-breasted, Golden-breasted, Bush shrike   Black-fronted, Grey-headed, Lühder’s, Sulphur-breasted, Bustard Black-bellied, Denham’s, Kori, white-bellied, Buttonquail Common, Buzzard Augur, Common, or Steppe, European Honey among others.
