On arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by our drive guide who will then transfer you to your lodge and on checking in, he will brief you on your entire safari then dinner and overnight. Early morning after breakfast, he will pick you up and your gorilla safari will start with Kigali city tour. You will visit the genocide sites, Museums, Artisan shops and many more.

Visit Kigali Genocide Memorial Site were about 2500 people are buried. The Site has three main exhibitions where one focuses on general information about the 1994 genocide while another is a memorial of the innocent children who died during the same genocide. The last exhibition covers genocides that occurred in the different parts of the world.

you will learn about the situation before, during and after the genocide through documentaries, videos or personal presentations. The whole experience can be very touching but nevertheless important to educate people about the horrors of genocides so that it never happens anywhere else again.

You will take a visit to the crafts centres in Kigali. visit the best artisan shops in Kigali where you can buy souvenirs and take back home as a memory of your time in Kigali. The best artisan centres are Inema Art Centre, Ivuka Arts studios and Caplaki. In doing this, you will be supporting the local communities who participate in these crafts especially the women.

Visit Kimironko market located in the heart of Kigali is the biggest market and shopping area in Rwanda. The complex and versatile market invites all people in and around Kigali to shop the different products. The market has a variety of products from essential goods like clothes, and home accessories to food such as vegetables and fruits.

Kimironko market has different entrances that ease the accessibility of the market given the number of people it hosts on a daily. Each entrance is directed to a different section of the market selling different products. This eases shopping, especially for newcomers in the market, and saves time searching for a product in a different section.

Transfer to Nyungwe national park offering a unique opportunity for chimpanzee trekking, allowing visitors to observe these primates in their natural habitat, with two habituated groups, Uwinka and Cyamudongo, available for tracking.

Chimpanzee tracking can take 2 to 6 hours, depending on the chimps’ movements and location within the park. You’ll need to secure a chimpanzee trekking permit of $150. While in Nyungwe, you can also experience the canopy walk, a unique experience in East Africa, and other activities like colobus monkey trekking and waterfall hikes.

They have no permanent address in the forest. They will make new nests where they will have ended the day. So, the time taken to find them is unpredictable, also since the chimps are quickly on the move once they wake up. The trackers communicate to the guides of the tourists about the location so the guides will work out the easiest route to find the chimps that are already on the move. Take one hour with them as they make their new moves.

Transfer to Akagera National Game Park for the wildlife encounters which will give you the chance to see the big five. The park also has several Savannah animals like the topi, hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, hyena, water buck, mongoose, eland, zebra, serval cats, duiker, impala, black masked civet, reed buck, bush pigs, giraffe, side-stripped jackal, Klipspringer, Sitatunga Antelopes and roan antelope.

For the bird lovers, the rare Shoe bill stork and Papyrus Gonolek can be spotted during a boat trip along the lakes in the park. Other species include the African fish eagles, cormorants, crowned cranes, egrets, Herons, marabou stork and open-billed stork.

Transfer to volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking offering a unique experience to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, with multiple habituated gorilla families accessible to tourists. Gorilla trekking involves hiking through dense bamboo forests and steep mountain slopes in search of one of the gorilla families. To participate in gorilla trekking, you need a Rwanda gorilla permit, which you should book well in advance, as they are in high demand at a cost of $1500.

After a quick briefing on safety measures and what to expect during the day, you will be grouped in groups of 8 people maximum and each group is assigned one gorilla family to trek. Rwanda has 10 gorilla families, hence 10 groups of 8 people each are the ones allowed to track on a particular day.

You will be assigned a group depending on your fitness and age. Once your group finds the gorilla family the clock starts ticking. You are advised to stay quiet, move slowly and avoid sudden movements in order not to irritate the gorillas. Instead, sit down and avoid looking directly into the eyes of the gorillas as this may also irritate them thinking that you want to fight them. Take the best photos and learn all their behaviour. You must stay near your guide and follow his instructions always. After the one hour you will descent to the park headquarters to pick your trekking certificate and then lunch at your lodge.
