Uganda Safari: North & Western Regions

Uganda is Pearl of Africa blessed with an undeniable natural beauty and is characterized by a rich cultural mosaic and wildlife diversity. This Uganda safari to North and Western regions will take you through some national parks such as Kidepo National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park among others. In order to have a great memorable experience on this safari, its better at least you like two weeks in Uganda (14 days).
This 14 days safari will start with game drives and bush walks in the rich savannah plains of Kidepo Valley National Park in the northern part of Uganda. Then continue with the western part which is full of the magnificent wildlife and a variety of activity experiences such spotting the rare tree climbing lions, trekking primates like gorillas and chimpanzees, boat cruises and also game drives. The safari will start and end in central region at Entebbe International Airport.
Upon your arrival at the Entebbe International Airport on this safari, our representative will be there already to transfer you to your booked accommodation in Entebbe or any other accommodation around Kampala for dinner and overnight stay.
On the 2nd day, wake up early in order to start your long drive northwards to Kidepo Valley National Park. The drive takes you past several towns and you have a glimpse of the local livelihood in Uganda as you see natives go around with their daily work. Your guide driver will give valid explanations to all your questions depending on anything you may get curious about during the drive. You will have stopover in Gulu town for lunch. After lunch and a little relaxation, you get back in your safari vehicle for a drive towards the north on a good tarmac road to Kitgum town. When you arrive in the park, just check-in at your booked accommodation for dinner and sleepover.
Your 3rd day will for game drive and evening nature walk in Kidepo Valley National Park. Wake up for breakfast and then embark on a morning game drive in the Kidepo plains. The game drive takes the Kakine circuit just close to Apoka and this trail may offer you a chance to see wildlife species including Buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, Jackson’s Hartebeests, Rock hyrax, Elands, Giraffes, Zebras, side-striped jackal and many more.
Alongside wildlife, you may also see several bird species. After the game drive, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, you take a nature walk through the park. Along with a ranger guide, you walk within nature for about 2 hours. Return to your lodge for dinner and a night’s stay.
4th day, this morning you will take the circuit to the “hot springs” at the furthest point of the park.
For this drive, ensure that you carry insect repellent since there are tsetse flies in some parts of this section. Many park endemics survive on this side of the park and you may also see the smallest antelope, cheetah and birds like Ostriches. Going past the Kidepo River, you have an amazing view of the scenic mountains around the park. After this morning game drive, you return to the lodge for lunch and then relaxation. In the evening you go for your last game drive. Taking a different circuit still, expect to see more wildlife species.
5th day, have your leisurely breakfast, check out at the hotel and meet your driver to embark on your journey to Murchison Falls National Park. You will have an enroute lunch on the way to the park and upon reaching Murchison Falls National Park, just check-in at accommodation for dinner and resting.
6th day, in the morning after breakfast, your guide will be ready to take you to the jungle in search of wildlife and bird species. The game drive exposes you to sightings of wildlife species like Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Giraffes, Buffaloes, baboons, and many more.
After the game drive in Murchison Falls National Park, you then return to your lodge for lunch and refresh. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile and here you see several aquatic species on the river banks such as the hippos and crocodiles while drinking water. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
7th day, transfer from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale Forest National Park. At your choice of accommodation in Murchison Falls National Park, you have breakfast then embark on the drive to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive may take about 6-7 hours along Kyenjojo-Hoima Road.
Reaching in the evening, you will check in at your prior booked accommodation facility. You refresh, have dinner and then sleep.
On 8th day, after breakfast at your lodge get ready for a chimpanzee trekking experience. Carry along with some drinking water and head out to the park for chimpanzee trekking. The trek starts with a briefing at the park offices and then head out to the jungle.
Just like gorilla trekking, a maximum of 1 hour is spent in the presence of chimpanzees as you watch them playfully interact in the forest. After the trek, you return to your lodge for lunch. After having lunch and some relaxation, transfer to Bigodi wetland for a nature walk. Bigodi wetland is just 5 minutes’ drive from Kibale Forest and host to an array of biodiversity including primates and bird species. Some of the bird species include the Great Blue Turaco, White-collared Olive back, Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Superb Sunbird, and many more. After the nature walk at Bigodi, you then return to your lodging facility where you relax, refresh and have dinner.
9th day, have a relaxed breakfast at your lodge and then embark on the drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You may drive through several plantations and scenic crater lakes and the journey may take about 3-4 hours.
On arrival at the park, you have lunch and then go out for an evening game drive. The game drive offers the chance to see several mammal species including Elephants, Kobs, Buffaloes, and several bird species including Kingfishers. In the evening you return to your booked accommodation facility for dinner and night sleepover.
10th day, have breakfast and then proceed for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. Here you will explore an array of wildlife including Elephants, Buffaloes, Topi, warthogs, Hyenas, lions and several bird species. The game drive may last for about 4 hours and remember to carry some drinking water, binoculars and a camera. After the game drive, you return to the lodge for lunch and refreshments. In the afternoon, you head for the Kazinga channel boat cruise. This is a great chance of seeing several aquatic species like crocodiles and hippos alongside other wildlife and bird species on the river banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
On your 11th day, have breakfast and then head out to the Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park. You will spend about 4 hours on the drive-in search of tree-climbing lions and any other mammals. After the game drive, you have lunch in the Ishasha sector. After lunch, you embark on the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Arriving in the evening hours, you check-in, refresh, have dinner and spend the night at your prior booked choice of accommodation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
12th day, after an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations for Uganda gorilla trekking safaris. During the briefing, a total of 8 tourists are allocated a single gorilla family depending on their hiking ability.
The trek starts with each group being accompanied by a park ranger into the forest and the trek may take about 2-6 hours depending on where the gorillas spent their previous night. Upon seeing the gorillas, a maximum of 1 hour is allocated in the presence of these gentle giants for photography and amazing moments.
After the trek, you return to the park headquarters where you receive a gorilla trekking certificate. After return back to the lodge for lunch, check-out at the lodge and then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for refreshment and relaxation at your booked hotel on the lake.
On this 13th day, you will spend your day relaxing on the beautiful lake Bunyonyi. During your stay here, you can choose to just stay at your hotel or have a boat cruise, zip lining, community tour or bird watching.
On your last day, you will leave Lake Bunyonyi very early in the morning for a drive back to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight. Depending on your departure flight time, you may have a brief stopover at the equator line to shop some souvenirs and crafts that you may carry home for remembrance about the beautiful Pearl of Africa. Drop off at the Airport marks the end of your 14 days safari.
